Hello, you glorious gluttons for all things indie horror! Are you just starving for the newest of the new, the most unknownest of the unknown? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to the Ultra-Indie Daily Dose! In this series, we’re going to pick a new game every day from an indie horror creator you’ve probably never heard of. No million-dollar budgets or factory productions. This is the space for the little guy with not but a developer toolkit and a dream. So if you’re down to roll the dice on something different, then stick around and check it out!
Surly the stress of all these Daily Dose horror games is getting to you. It certainly gets to me. My poor wee heart can’t take the fear, so today we’re going in a different direction. Super Surprise Party…? is a game by itch.io dev Meowmee, created for the Community Horror Jam. In it, you help the narrator with setting up a fun non-horror, non-stressful surprise party.
Ahhh, no! It actually is horror after all! Super Surprise Party…? takes inspiration from such titles as Doki Doki Literature Club. Using a mix of bright colors, innocent premise, and immersive 2nd-person dialogue, this style of game is designed to set you at ease. Of course, Super Surprise Party…? gives away its hand a little early by having you enable (fake) location settings on the game. But still, even knowing the trick does not keep it from being a fun time.
Super Surprise Party…? was made for a game jam, so it’s certainly not perfect. The runtime is around 5-7 minutes long. You can try out the game for free by clicking here.
