New Alex Garland Movie Imagines A Horrifying Future [Watch]

Civil War

You know Alex Garland for not only his films Annihilation and Ex Machina, but his work with Danny Boyle on films such as 28 Days Later and Sunshine. And most recently, you may know him for his divisive film Men. Now, Garland is back with an action-packed thriller called Civil War about, well, a future civil war.

The very brief synopsis of the film reads, “A race to the White House in a near-future America balanced on the razor’s edge.”

It seems that Garland is pivoting to a full action film here, but isn’t shying away from the heavy-handed political commentary. With Dunst’s character playing a war photographer and several shots of Press vests, it seems there will be a focus on the media’s role in conflicts and war. While an unfortunately evergreen topic, it’s particularly poignant now as the world watches Palestinian journalists document warzones and violence.

Academy Award nominee Kirsten Dunst stars in the film with Cailee Spaeny, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, and Nick Offerman.

Civil War comes to theaters on April 26, 2024.
