Fans Continue to Stress Over This “Harrowing” Netflix Survival Thriller
Back in early October, we spotlighted Albert Pintó’s survival thriller Nowhere on Netflix, with fans at the time heralding it as the most stress-inducing Netflix original in some time. More than a month later, Nowhere continues to have a healthy showing on the platform. This past week, it remained in the Top 10 most streamed titles not in the English language. Not bad for the little shipping container that could.
Per Netflix: Pregnant, alone and drifting in the sea, a woman trapped in a shipping container tries to survive after fleeing a devastated totalitarian country.
Nowhere stars Anna Castillo and Tamar Novas in a gripping, unconventional twist on the dystopian survival thriller. That is has endured in the Top 10 for more than a month is a testament to the efficacy of its thrills, and fans online are as eager to discover it now as they were when it first premiered back in September.
Check out some choice reactions below:
No differently than when it first launched on Netflix, Nowhere’s high-concept thrills are masking the truly heartbreaking, anxiety-inducing ride audiences are in for. As the state of streaming shifts and audiences become more selective about the kinds of programs they consume, Nowhere is a healthy win for Netflix. I’ve long maintained the platform is at its best when cultivating an audience for international genre fare (just look at Incantation), and with Nowhere, Netflix has successfully spotlighted a film that would otherwise have gone completely unnoticed domestically. No doubt, Nowhere will continue to captivate audiences as the year comes to a close.
