Top 10 Charts: The Most Popular Stephen King Horror Movies Streaming This October

Stephen King
Late Night with Conan O’Brien and NBC/Universal

This Halloween there is no shortage of Stephen King classics to binge for your 31 Days of Halloween (or adjacent) challenge. Riding the Bullet, a forgotten gem, is now available to stream on Prime Video, and Rose Red, Stephen King’s early aughts haunted house saga, is available in its lengthy glory on Hulu. Plenty of other King adaptations are swirling about the streaming world, and several of them have topped their respective streamers’ charts this Halloween.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines is the number one movie on Paramount+, The Boogeyman is the number four movie on Hulu, and It: Chapter 2—the dense, cosmic sequel to the highest-grossing horror movie of all time—is number seven on the Hulu charts. It might be easy to forget, but decades after King first arrived on the scene, adaptations of his works continue to resonate with audiences old and new alike. Here, we’ll be briefly spotlighting his chart-topping fare, including a surprise fourth King recommendation that continues a healthy showing on Hulu.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines

Per Paramount+: In 1969, a young Jud Crandall has dreams of leaving his hometown of Ludlow, Maine behind, but soon discovers sinister secrets buried within and is forced to confront a dark family history that will forever keep him connected to Ludlow.

Our review of the Stephen King prequel called it an “admirable take on Stephen King’s scariest novel,” and it seems the fans agree.

The Boogeyman

Per Hulu: From the mind of Stephen King, high school student Sadie Harper and her younger sister, Sawyer, are still reeling from the recent death of their mother. They’re not getting much support from their father, Will, a therapist who’s dealing with his own intense pain. When a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their house seeking help, he leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.

While The Boogeyman didn’t quite work for me, test screenings were strong enough to mandate a theatrical release this past summer rather than a streaming debut. As gateway horror, audiences could do a lot worse, even if the trauma-centric scares feel a little too been there, done that.

It: Chapter 2

Per Hulu: The Losers Club reunites 27 years later to face the diabolical Pennywise in this frightening sequel.

It: Chapter 2 isn’t anywhere near as strong as Andrés Muschietti’s first outing. It’s long, overwrought, and tonally inconsistent. Still, I can’t help but love it. The Stephen King universe went full Marvel with its “Avengers, assemble” Losers Club, massive budget, and outrageous set pieces. It’s not a classic, but I promise it’s probably better than you remember.

No One Will Save You

Per Hulu: In this captivating sci-fi psychological thriller, a young woman who’s been alienated from her community finds herself in an action-packed face-off with a host of extraterrestrial beings who threaten her future while forcing her to deal with her past

Not a Stephen King movie, but an unequivocal recommendation from the master of horror himself, No One Will Save You is the horror surprise of the year, a tense sci-fi outing King calls “brilliant, daring, involving, scary.”
