Forgotten Gem of A Stephen King Movie is Now on Prime Video

Great news, Stephen King fans! While The Boogeyman and Rose Red are both streaming on Hulu for Huluween (what a title), another underrated Stephen King adaptation has just hit Prime Video: Mick Garris’ Riding the Bullet, the 2004 adaptation of Stephen King’s novella of the same name. Of note is Riding the Bullet’s status as the first-ever mass-market e-book available to purchase. For the unfamiliar, check out the trailer and synopsis below.

Per Prime Video: Alan embarks on a 100-mile hitchhike to see his mother in the hospital. Along the way he must confront his many demons-both living and dead-and in the end make the ultimate choice that will mean life or death for him and his mother!

Jonathan Jackson, Barbara Hershey, and David Arquette star in the road trip from Hell. Riding the Bullet is one of the better Stephen King adaptations from the early aughts. It’s scary, deeply heartfelt, and super, super weird in the best way possible. Last year, I had the pleasure of sitting down with director and scriptwriter Mick Garris himself to talk grief, Riding the Bullet, and King in general. Check that interview out here.

Fans might similarly know Garris as the screenwriter behind Hocus Pocus and the director behind several of the most underrated Stephen King adaptations, including 1997’s The Shining Miniseries and 1993’s Sleepwalkers, the first film King ever wrote originally for the screen. Garris was enthusiastic to share news of Riding the Bullet’s arrival on Prime Video. Check out his post below!

Riding the Bullet is a deeply personal movie for me, and if you haven’t had the chance to check it out yet, I wholeheartedly recommend finding the time for it. What do you think? Do you plan to check out Riding the Bullet on Prime Video this Halloween? Let me know over on Twitter @Chadiscollins and be certain to check out everything else coming to the streamer this October.
