‘Scream’ Star Chases Tornadoes in Hulu’s #1 Charting Thriller
There aren’t enough good tornado movies around. While audiences wait for the long-gestating Twister sequel to arrive (fun fact, Wendy from Prom Night is a credited co-writer on the original), they’re left with few, if any, good inclement weather thrillers to keep them company. There’s Twister, 2014’s Into the Storm (not terrible, if you haven’t seen it), and, of course, an inordinate number of Sharknado releases, though otherwise, the dearth of tornado content is an F5 serious catastrophe. Luckily, fans have been flocking to Supercell, a 2023 Herbert James Winterstern disaster thriller that is presently the number-one thriller on Hulu. Check out the synopsis and trailer below:
Baseball-size hail, violent winds, and churning cyclones make supercells deadly, and when William Brody was a boy, his father – a legendary storm-chaser – was killed by one.
Screamstar Skeet Ulrich stars alongside the late Anne Heche and Daniel Diemer. Heche tragically passed away in 2022, and Supercell is one of several pending posthumous releases for the Psycho and I Know What You Did Last Summer star. Supercell might veer closer to family drama than a full-borne disaster picture, though there is still plenty of storm chasing thrills and destructive terror to satisfy genre fans. While a critical failure, it no doubt found its home on streaming. Check out what fans are saying of Supercell on Hulu below. While some are calling it a blatant “Twister rip-off,” others are enjoying its throwback thrills.
Fan reaction is mixed, though Supercell is clearly targeting an underserved disaster movie market. There just aren’t enough of them nowadays. In the nineties, it seemed like a volcano was erupting or a tornado was tearing through the country every other week. It was a glorious, digital time, and I truthfully wish there was more of it.
What do you think? Have you had a chance to check out Supercell yet? Where did you land on it? Let me know over on Twitter @Chadiscollins.
