You can say what you want about Hollywood’s addiction to retelling films, but there is at least one good quality that comes out of the remake machine: They breathe new life into the originals, allowing them to be introduced to a whole new audience and a good portion of the time get new DVD releases!
Today we learned via DavisDVD that this holiday season horror fans are going to witness this mixed blessing again. Black Christmas, also known as Silent Night, Evil Night, is getting a brand spanking new DVD release to go along with its remake. That’s better than last year when Santa peed in my beer and tea-bagged my girlfriend while we slept!
1974’s Black Christmas starred Olivia Hussey and Margot “Pills are Fun” Kidder in a story of sorority house murder. Girls go missing, cops don’t care, and even the subject of abortion is brought up. Hot damn on a stick! Who’s doing the killing? Whose panties will get raided? Are the nerds out for revenge?
This digitally remastered edition will feature a new Dolby Digital 5.1 track and two hours worth of bonus material. We’ll be seeing interviews, a midnight screening Q&A, and more! Not bad for a $24.99 triple dip.
