It’s been a few months since we last heard anything about the wonderfully titled low budget, man-in-suit monster movie Don’t Let the Riverbeast Get You!, which once again proves The Cabin in the Woods was correct about everything being better with a merman.
Synopsis:
A vicious monster has arisen from its watery lair! It’s the Riverbeast, and he’s threatening a peaceful New England town. Local tutor Neil Stuart has seen the beast before, but nobody believed his story, making him the town laughingstock. Neil sets out not only to prove that the Riverbeast exists but also, with the help of his beautiful pupil, scrappy tutor buddies, and a former professional athlete, to vanquish the aquatic menace!
Don’t Let the Riverbeast Get You! is an all-new movie from the makers of Freaky Farley and Monsters, Marriage, and Murder in Manchvegas. It’s directed by Charles Roxburgh and stars Matt Farley, Sharon Scalzo, Kevin McGee, Elizabeth Peterson, Tiffany L’Heureux, Bryan Fortin, Chris Peterson, Millhouse G, Jim Farley, Jim McHugh, and Tom Scalzo as Teddy Hollingsworth.
It may not win any awards for acting or filmmaking, but I cannot resist a monster movie with a gill-man costume so beautifully goofy and ghastly all at the same time. And it’s still better than most of the CGI monsters we see in low budget movies these days.
For those of you wondering when the Riverbeast will get you, May 21st is when Brain Damage Films is set to release this low budget horror comedy to DVD. Below you’ll find the new trailer for the film.
As if the makers of Don’t Let the Riverbeast Get You! are purposely courting me for a future B-Sides, there’s also a music video for the film’s self-titled theme song performed by a band called The Dying Elk Herd. It’s disturbingly catchy.
