Director Chloe Okuno on What Makes ‘Watcher’ So Distinct [Interview]
Watcher is poised to be one of this year’s breakout horror successes. With taut direction from Chloe Okuno, a sensational central performance from star Maika Monroe, and more Giallo homages that audiences can shake a black leather glove at, it’s a sensational stalk-and-slash throwback, and one of our favorites out of this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
Watcher follows a young actress who just moved to Bucharest with her boyfriend. There, as a serial killer stalks the city, she begins to suspect a mysterious stranger across the street has been stalking her. Dread Central was fortunate to have the chance to sit down with director Chloe Okuno to discuss her terrifying feature debut, working on V/H/S/94, her horror inspirations, and what projects she might like to pursue next.
Watcher is in theaters now.
