In ‘Umma’, Sandra Oh Faces The Terror of Intergenerational Trauma [Trailer]

Sandra Oh has impressed audiences no matter the role, whether she’s a sarcastic doctor in Grey’s Anatomy or a paranoid spy in Killing Eve. Now, with director Iris K. Shim’s film Umma, Oh is taking on the world of horror.

In Umma (the Korean word for “mother) follows Amanda (Oh) and her daughter (Fivel Stewart) living a quiet life on an American farm. But when the remains of her estranged mother arrive from Korea, Amanda becomes haunted by the fear of turning into her own mother.

 Umma follows in the footsteps of previous horror films that examine intergenerational trauma, such as Hereditary and Relic. However, Shim, who also wrote the script, provides a new perspective on the topic through a Korean-American lens.

Horror legend Sam Raimi is producing the film alongside Zainab Azizi.

MeeWha Alana Lee, Tom Yi, Odeya Rush, and Dermot Mulroney also star in the film.

Umma hits theaters on March 18, 2022.
