Kaufman tells us here at Dread Central: “Macon Blair knows Troma better than I do. He’s seen everything. Described as a contemporary reimagining, this Toxic Avenger reboot will subvert the superhero genre a la (Deadpool). The first flick followed a dude who gets disfigured after falling into toxic waste and then fights bad guys like a superhero.
Michael Herz directed the original The Toxic Avenger from a screenplay written by Lloyd Kaufman (credited as Samuel Weil) and Joe Ritter. The film spawned three film sequels including The Last Temptation of Toxie and Citizen Toxie.
The cult classic Troma flick sports a surprisingly solid 70% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. Here’s the Critics Consensus that reads: A silly and ribald superhero spoof, Toxic Avenger uninhibited humor hits more than it misses.
