Horror History: SPECIES II with Natasha Henstridge Is Now 23 Years Old

The sequel to 1995’s Species, Species II hit a theater near you on this day in 1998. Peter Medak directed from a screenplay penned by Chris Brancato. Natasha Henstridge and also Michael Madsen returned as Eve and Preston.

Though never equalling the status of the original, Species II is still good fun, especially for fans of 1990s-era horror. If it’s been a while, or if you’ve never seen Species II, check out the trailer and synopsis below.

Species Synopsis:
Having just returned from a mission to Mars, Commander Ross (Justin Lazard) isn’t exactly himself. He’s slowly becoming a terrifying alien entity with one goal — to procreate with human women! When countless women suffer gruesome deaths after bearing half-alien offspring, scientist Laura Baker (Marg Helgenberger) and hired assassin Press Lennox (Michael Madsen) use Eve (Natasha Henstridge), a more tempered alien clone, to find Ross and his brood. Before long Eve mates with Ross.

Species Trivia:
The final version of Species shortens most of the nude scenes. Such as the debutantes having sex with Patrick, or the strip-club sequence. The DVD extra features contain the full scenes. (Source)

At around forty-nine minutes, Press says “bangin’ cocktail waitresses two at a time”. The filmmakers borrowed this line from The Godfather (1972) from the scene where Moe Green explains to Michael Corleone his public mistreatment of brother Fredo. (Source)

Despite its cult classic status, the film sports a mere 9% rating over on Rotten Tomatoes. The Critics Consensus reads: Clumsily exploitative and sloppily assembled, Species II fails to clear the rather low bar set by its less-than-stellar predecessor.
