Whoa Now, FALCON + WINTER SOLDIER Director Also Made This Forgotten 90’s Horror Sequel

One of the biggest shows right now is Disney+ and Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Wyatt Russell star in the series, which my son f*cking loves. I dig it too, I guess. Not as much as WandaVision but what are you gonna do, that was near-masterpiece. Anyhow, one of the best aspects of the new series is Kari Skogland’s directing. I wasn’t familiar with the name so I looked her up. And while she’s crafted mostly high-profile shows, she also helmed one of our genre’s … not so great flicks, Children of the Corn 666: Isaac’s Return.

The 1999 sequel stars Natalie Ramsey as the daughter of one of the original members of a murderous cult. You know the one, composed of creep-ass kids who worship a demonic spirit called “He Who Walks Behind the Rows.” Anyhow, Ramsey travels to her hometown (one guess) to find her mother and explore her past. Things don’t go well. Upon her arrival, Isaac (John Franklin) wakes from a coma. Now Ramsey must discover the truth about her lineage while violence and strange rituals surround her.

Again, it’s not one of the best movies out there. It’s not even one of the best HORROR movies out there. Hell, it’s not even one of the best Children of the Corn movies out there. But all the same, it was directed by one badass filmmaker. It happens. But again, let’s remember that since then Skogland has helmed episodes of classic shows.

These include, but aren’t limited to, The Crow: Stairway to Heaven, The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead, The Handmaid’s Tale, The Punisher, Under the Dome, and NOS4A2. Not to mention HBO’s Boardwalk Empire with Steve Buscemi.

All of this is to say, we all have friends who loath horror, but love Marvel movies. So when they praise The Birdman and the Cold Shoulder is, make sure to tell them it was directed by the filmmaker behind Children of the Corn 6. Hell, maybe they’ll check out Isaac’s Return. Let’s hope they do. And while we’re here, let’s mention how Marvel has a habit of hiring horror directors to helm their mega-budget movies.

But that’s a list for another time… stay tuned!

Children of the Corn 666 sports an unsurprising R-rating for horror violence and gore, and for some language. Nancy Allen (Robocop) stars with Natalie Ramsey (Cherry Falls), John Franklin (Addams Family Values), and Stacy Keach (Road Games).

You can rent it over on Amazon Prime right HERE.
