Did Ernie Hudson Accidentally Reveal Rick Moranis Cameo in GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE?

Fans of Rick Moranis know that the actor retired in the 1990s, so expecting him to pop up in the upcoming Ghostbusters sequel, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, is simply too much to hope for–or is it?

In a recent interview with Living Life Fearless, Ghostbusters alum Ernie Hudson (who definitely will be in Afterlife) made comments that have some people daring to dream.

Synopsis:
When a single mother and her two children move to a new town, they soon discover that they have a connection to the original Ghostbusters and their grandfather’s secret legacy.

Jason Reitman directs Ghostbusters 2020 from a screenplay he wrote along with Gil Kenan (Monster House) based on the original film written by Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ivan Reitman. Ivan Reitman produces and the film stars Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard, Carrie Coon, Paul Rudd, Logan Kim, Celeste O’Connor, Oliver Cooper, and Bokeem Woodbine.

It will also see the return of original Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters 2 cast including Bill Murray as Peter Venkman, Dan Aykroyd as Raymond Stantz, Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore, Sigourney Weaver as Dana Barrett, and Annie Potts as Janine Melnitz.

When asked about the possibility of Moranis appearing in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Hudson coyly told Living Life Fearless:

I think the studios probably want to hold that one. I love Rick. But yeah, I’ll let them share that.

Ernie Hudson

I’ll be the first to admit that this is hardly a confirmation. While there’s an implication that there is indeed news to “share”, Hudson could simply be referring to the fact that Moranis won’t be in the film (as Afterlife director Jason Reitman has stated from the get-go).

It’s worth noting that Moranis did step before cameras recently to appear in a commercial for Mint Mobile (alongside Ryan Reynolds). If the actor is willing to take money from Mint, then perhaps the producers of Afterlife were able to persuade Moranis to reprise Louis Tully.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife is currently slated to hit theaters beginning June 11th, 2021.
