Enjoy A Preview From Marvel’s New ALIEN Comic

After they acquired the license to publish Alien and Predator comics last year, Marvel has now announced their first brand new comic set in the Alien universe. Simply titled Alien, the book will be written by Phillip Kennedy Johnson and drawn by Salvador Larroca, and thanks to Bleeding Cool, you can view a text-free double splash page from the first issue below. The pages show two characters trapped in a Xenomorph Hive, and we can assume that things are probably not going to end well for them.

In the series, a Weyland-Yutani employee named Gabriel Cruz is almost killed during an encounter with a Xenomorph, which causes him to quit his job. But after Cruz leaves behind his dangerous occupation and tries to reconnect with his estranged son, he finds that he still has unfinished business with the deadly Xenomorph species. Interestingly, one of the supporting characters in the series will be a Bishop-model android, so it’s great to see Marvel incorporating popular elements from the Alien movies.

Speaking to Marvel.com, Johnson, who has also written Superman for DC and served in the United States Army, discussed his excitement about working on the Alien comic, saying:

“Just as a reader and fan, I was as excited as anyone when I heard the franchise was coming to Marvel, and when they asked me to WRITE THE LAUNCH, I was floored. I’ve been training my whole life for this gig without knowing it…Ever since seeing Ridley Scott’s Alien at way too young an age, I’ve been OBSESSED with the Xenomorph, the single most iconic representation of terror on film.”

Larroca also said that illustrating Alien was a dream come true, and his amazing artwork clearly reflects this sentiment. Put simply, this is a comic created by hardcore Alien fans for other hardcore Alien fans to enjoy.

The first issue of Alien will be available on March 24, and we hope the book will mark the start of a long line of successful Alien comics from Marvel. It will be priced at a reasonable $4.99, and there will be a range of variant covers released alongside the standard edition, most of which show terrifying images of Xenomorphs.
