Channing Tatum Mysterious UNIVERSAL MONSTER Movie In the Works

Channing Tatum will soon reteam with 21 Jump Street directors Phil Lord, and Chris Miller. And, this time it’s for a mysterious Universal Monster movie!

Plot details are being kept under wraps regarding which character this will focus on. That said, the movie is currently being described as “a bold genre reinvention of one of the studio’s most beloved characters from the Monsters Universe.”

The “modern-day, tongue-in-cheek thriller inspired by Universal’s classic monster legacy” is based on an original idea by Reid Carolin. Wes Tooke (Jean-Claude Van Johnson, Midway) will pen the script based on a treatment by Carolin.

Now, of course, it’s hard to say at the moment who we think the movie will revolve around. But Leigh Whannell already tackled The Invisible Man. And Ryan Gosling is playing Whannell’s new Wolfman. And Karyn Kusma is tackling Dracula.

On top of that, Dexter Fletcher (Rocketman) is helming Renfield and Elizabeth Banks will direct The Invisible Woman. Screenwriter David Koepp says Bride of Frankenstein is still in the works. Tom Cruise already tackled The Mummy.

Not to mention Universal’s planned team-up movies like Paul Feig’s Dark Army, Matt Stawski’s Monster Mash, and Josh Cooley’s Little Monsters in the works.

So that leaves us with Frankenstein, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Phantom of the Opera, and Jekyll and Hyde. We’ll keep you posted if we hear anything further.

Whatever the monster ends up being, Tatum will star. Lord and Miller will produce the flick along with Tatum, Carolin, Aditya Sood, and Peter Kiernan.

Tatum, Lord, and Miller’s last team-up 21 Jump Street began when two cops (Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum) go undercover as high-school students to shut down a drug ring. But high school is nothing like they remember and they must confront teenage terror and anxiety they thought they had left behind.

Which Universal Monster do you hope Tatum will tackle?
