stevens - Steven Spielberg Wants Thor Leading his Robopocalypse!Let’s face it; only a god-like human could successfully take part in a Robopocalypse. Or at the very least an actor who knows how to play someone who’s god-like. Read on for the heavy hammered latest on Steven Spielberg’s new film!

According to Deadline, Chris Hemsworth (Thor, The Avengers, Snow White and the Huntsman) will be working with Spielberg on his next helming effort, Robopocalypse, the big techno-thriller which is sure to become the director’s next big global popcorn film. The Disney-Fox-DreamWorks actioner is releasing worldwide on April 25, 2014

Drew Goddard (Cloverfield) penned the adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s epic novel about the human race’s attempt to survive an apocalyptic robot uprising. Disney will release domestically, and Fox will distribute the film overseas.

Book Synopsis:
Roughly twenty years from now, our technological marvels unite and turn against us. A childlike but massively powerful artificial intelligence known as Archos comes online…and kills the man who created it. This first act of betrayal leads Archos to gain control over the global network of machines and technology that regulates everything from transportation to utilities, defense, and communications. In the early months, sporadic glitches are noticed by a handful of unconnected humans – from a senator and single mother disconcerted by her daughter’s “smart” toys to a lonely Japanese bachelor to an isolated U.S. soldier – but most are unaware of the growing rebellion until it is far too late. Then, in the span of minutes, at a moment known later in history as Zero Hour, every mechanical device in our world rebels, setting off the Robot War that both decimates and – for the first time in history – unites humankind.

  1. So in Spielberg’s version, can we expect the heroes to be a 12 year-old boy, a puppy, and a ragtag band of misfits? Lots of heartwarming moments and sappy music?

    • Yeah because Schindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan and Munich had plenty of that. Please, Spielberg is a craftsman. He can direct this film just fine.

      • So three good movies in the last 20 years are supposed to prove more than Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, War of the Worlds, The Terminal, AI, and Minority Report?

        Not to mention nearly everything he’s been an executive producer on – Falling Skies, Terra Nova, Real Steel, The River, Cowboys and Aliens, and, let’s not forget, the TRANSFORMERS movies!

        Craftsman is the right word. Spielberg is a sound technical director with an endless cash flow. He makes competent, big budget movies that make tons of cash, but he rarely creates anything truly great anymore. He’s still better than Michael Bay and Paul WS Anderson, for whatever that’s worth.

        Not saying this movie will be bad, but I doubt it will be anything more than a decent popcorn flick. It would be nice if Spielberg would stop wasting his time producing all these crappy TV shows and get that Talisman series into production. Or give up the rights that he’s held for nearly 30 years and let someone else do it.

        • Minority Report and AI are surprisingly bleak films with very little to them that would add to the Spielberg wonder and awe cliche he’s known for. The point is the man can be grimm and bleak whenever he wants to, he just opts for his signature style of filmmaking. The man is an artist, he’ll deliver.

          • Ah okay, one misstep in a legendary career of amazing films disqualifies everything Spielberg has made automatically. That makes perfect sense, that’s not a weak argument at all.

          • I don’t think Speilberg has made a watchable film in decades. Even his serious academy-award-hunting films only make a splash because he’s got the name and money to promote them.

            There’s a vile vein of Disneyesque sentimentality in all of his movies.

          • That’s a laugh riot, and I disagree. Munich is incredible, Minority Report was great, The Terminal was a cute ode to Capra, Catch me if you Can was a wonderful chase film, and War of the Worlds definitely had its moments. Spielberg is the only consistent master storyteller among men who were once giants and are now running on fumes and apparently going loco like Scorsese, Allen, and Lucas.

          • Munich was boring. The Terminal was a perfect example of the sentimentality I mentioned earlier (a cheap button pressing replacement for real emotion). War of the Worlds was hugely stupid in the worst Hollywood blockbuster way. Minority Report has enormous plot holes showcasing bad writing that Spielberg assumes his audience isn’t sophisticated enough to see (I guess most of the time he’s right).

            I’m sorry to say I’ve seen all of these films but I’ve learned my lesson now. No more Spielberg.

          • Every time I read that title, the rage comes flooding back in. I doubt very much that Spielberg had any control on Indy IV. I lay all of the blame at Lucas’ feet.

          • Lucas pressured Spielberg in to doing a lot of the film Lucas’ way, so I don’t completely lay the blame on Spielberg.
