NFF Masquerade: Top 25 Favorite Shorts
As with all previous years of Nightmares Film Festival, this year’s Masquerade virtual edition of the fest showcased tons of short films of all types from all over the world. We’re talking over 130 shorts, all hailing from various different genres and subgenres. There was literally something for everyone.
What follows is a list of my absolute favorite shorts from this year’s jam-packed lineup. I sincerely hope that all of these see some sort of distribution in the future, be it on YouTube or Vimeo or under the banner of outfits like Alter, World of Death, etc. Hell, many deserve to be expanded into full features. Particularly The Relic, whose director J.M. Logan needs to be handed a budget to go off and make a wild and terrifying Lovecraftian horror flick right this instant. I’d also love to see filmmakers Thad Lee, Marcus Svanberg, Francisco Lacerda, and Austin Rourke make features in a similar vein to their shorts, be they expansions of said films or something new, because I am in love with the vibes present in all of them.
Without further adieu, here are my Top 25 Favorite NFF Masquerade Shorts…
