Stephen King’s Wife Had Killer Pitch For SLEEPWALKERS 2

Now I don’t know about you but one of my favorite underappreciated fright flicks from the ’90s is Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers. Directed by Mick Garris (The Stand) and starring Mädchen Amick and Alice Krige, it’s a movie I keep hoping gets the reboot treatment. And it turns out the film almost got a killer sequel back in the day from none other than King’s wife, Tabitha.

Mick Garris says on Post Mortem: “There was a little bit of talk. I mean, the movie was successful, it was the #1 movie the week that it came out. I never heard the studio talk about it, but Tabitha King, Stephen King’s wife, actually wrote a treatment for a sequel to Sleepwalkers that involved a women’s basketball team somehow. I’m not sure how, I never read it, but King was very excited that Tabby came up with this. But it was a sequel that nobody at the studio gave a shit about. You know, they liked the money that Sleepwalkers made, but it was not a prestige release by any means, so they never even thought about Sleepwalkers after.”

Stephen King’s Sleepwalkers begins when newcomers Charles and his mother, Mary, settle into town, the local residents do not suspect that they’re shape-shifters looking to feed on the town’s virgin girls. Charles quickly befriends innocent and chaste Tanya (Madchen Amick) when he begins attending high school, hoping to take her life force in order to feed his mother. When Tanya agrees to a first date with Charles, she may learn his true intentions the hard way.
