Friday Redux Writers Official
Not that this can really be considered “news” since it was reported weeks ago, but it is an official confirmation, which is never a bad thing.
The Hollywood Reporter announced today that Platinum Dunes have officially hired Mark Swift and Damien Shannon (pictured) to pen their long-proposed new Friday the 13th entry, which is now being touted as a straight-on remake. This was brought up recently (“Friday is Still Coming!” – September 2007), but now that it’s in the trades it’s for real, right? Sure.
All that’s said about the remake is that, unlike the original Friday the 13th which only showed Jason as a mutated kid popping out of Crystal Lake at the end, this time out we’ll be seeing Jason in all his hockey-masked glory from the first frame. Swift and Shannon, you may recall, were responsible for the Freddy Vs. Jason remake script that almost saw its way to the big screen before New Line had to go and fuck with it and deliver the steaming pile it’s regarded as today (by me, at least).
More news on the Friday the 13th remake is on its way so stay tuned!
