Go, Figure: FANTASY ISLAND Rated PG-13

Blumhouse’s horror-twist on that old TV series Fantasy Island is headed our way this Valentine’s Day. And today we have word the MPAA slapped the movie with – big surprise – a PG-13 rating for “violence, terror, drug content, suggestive material, and brief strong language.”

Truth be told, I was kind of hooked by this movie’s general premise (a horror version of Fantasy Island, duh) but after seeing the preview this looks a little, I don’t know, ‘meh’ to me. Hopefully, the final film keeps the blood and guts coming though. Fingers crossed. Yeah, right.

It centers on the enigmatic Mr. Roarke played by Michael Peña who makes the secret dreams of his lucky guests come true at a luxurious but remote tropical resort. But when the fantasies turn into nightmares, the guests have to solve the island’s mystery in order to escape with their lives.

Fantasy Island is directed by Jeff Wadlow from a screenplay he wrote along with Jillian Jacobs and Chris Roach based on the show created by Gene Levitt. Jason Blum produces.

It stars Lucy Hale Maggie Q, Portia Doubleday, Jimmy O. Yang, Ryan Hansen, Charlotte McKinney, Parisa Fitz-Henley, Austin Stowell, Michael Rooker, and Michael Peña as Mr. Roarke.

Sony will unleash the Blumhouse Production into a theater near you on February 14, 2020.
