The Witch director Robert Eggers’s new nightmare The Lighthouse starring Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson hit theaters last month. And today we have the film’s screenplay for your viewing pleasure.
I dig how the Eggers brothers kick off the script with a NOTE that reads: “This film must be photographed on black and white 35mm negative. Aspect ratio: 1.19:1. Audio mix: Mono.”
And they got their way as the final film was shot on 35mm black-and-white stock using equipment from the 1920s and ’40s.

Described as a hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of two lighthouse keepers on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s, The Lighthouse has been rated R for sexual content, nudity, violence, disturbing images, and some language.
Robert Eggers directs the flick from a screenplay he co-wrote along with Max Eggers. Youree Henley, Lourenço Sant’ Anna, Rodrigo Teixeira, and Jay Van Hoy produced. Jarin Blaschke is the movie’s cinematographer and Louise Ford edited. RT Features, New Regency, and Parts & Labor are the production companies.
The film currently holds a stellar 92% approval rating over on Rotten Tomatoes with a Critics Consensus which reads, “A gripping story brilliantly filmed and led by a pair of powerhouse performances, The Lighthouse further establishes Robert Eggers as a filmmaker of exceptional talent.”
