Robert Rodriguez’s New Flick HYPNOTIC Snags Ben Affleck

Sin City and Planet Terror writer-director Robert Rodriguez has chosen his next film. It’s a big-budget thriller called Hypnotic.

And today we’ve learned via Variety that none other than Ben Affleck has been chosen to take the lead in the film.

Affleck will play a detective who becomes entangled in a mystery involving his missing daughter and a secret government program while investigating a string of impossible high-end heists.

The project is budgeted between $60 million and $80 million.

Studio 8’s Jeff Robinov said in a statement: “Working with Ben on his award-winning projects, including Argo and The Town, I have seen how his versatility and creativity has made him one of the most talented filmmakers both in front of and behind the camera. It’s very meaningful to be collaborating with Ben again on this uniquely riveting suspense thriller, and I know he and Robert will make a terrific film together.”

Solstice Studios and Studio 8 produce and are trying to fit in Affleck’s busy schedule by kicking off filming in April.

Affleck’s last role in our beloved genre would have to be Seven, Zodiac, and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo director David Fincher’s adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s Gone Girl. Affleck’s costars were Rosamund Pike, Neil Patrick Harris, and Tyler Perry.

Oh, yeah, and he played Batman a few times.
