Arachnophobes Beware! Eight-Legged Beasties Run Wild in Short Film Spider Danger!

Post Thumb:

spiderdanger - Arachnophobes Beware! Eight-Legged Beasties Run Wild in Short Film Spider Danger! Is there anything creepier than a really good spider movie? Maybe finding a big spider in your bed is creepier, but we’d say spider movies rank right up there in the skin-crawling department. Andrea Ricca tapped into that fear for his new short film, Spider Danger, which we have in its entirety.

Spider Danger is basically a one-man show by Ricca. He wrote the film, shot it, starred in it, edited it and provided all the effects, including the 3D work and animation. The only thing Ricca didn’t do was compose the original score (that slacker!), which was done by Antonio DeLuise.

The short channels the creature features of the ’50s, focusing on monsters from outer space terrorizing an unsuspecting spider lover.

  1. On a technical level no doubt it’s impressive. I didn’t care for the short but I don’t want to take away from the hard work and dedication of the filmmaker. Having said that…

Yet again, spiders are treated like generic monsters. The real. stalking, creepiness of spiders-the thing that freaks people out about them-isn’t used. Instead it’s the spray can/car hit take ’em out approach of a character that isn’t, apparently, too worked up that ‘JESUS CHRIST THERE”S FUCKING GIANT SPIDERS COMING THE FUCK AFTER ME!’. It’s what doomed Eight Legged Freaks. Someday someone will end up making a monster movie with giant(ish) spiders acting like spiders and it’s going to be scary as hell.

Oh and I would like to add, Dr. Gash, that I’ve really been enjoying your articles. The site has really seen an upswing in quality in articles, interviews and commentaries recently and your definetly part of that.

    • Hey, thank you very much, Gus! Hearing positive words like that from the DC faithful is awesome! I’m glad you’re enjoying it, I’m giving it my all. Thank you.
