When the marketing team at Orion realized their Child’s Play remake was hitting US theaters the same day as Toy Story 4 (last Friday, June 21st), they decided to have some fun with the juxtaposition by creating a series of subversive posters. Over the past couple weeks, we’ve seen Chucky stomp Woody, blast Buzz, burn Slinky Dog, eviscerate Mr. Potatoe Head, send Rex into extinction, and hammer the hell out of Hamm.
Now that both Child’s Play and Toy Story 4 have been released in theaters nationwide, it appears the characters from Pixar’s movie have gotten their revenge! Not only did Toy Story 4 rule the box office this weekend, but a couple of new posters have also hit the net–and Chucky certainly gets his comeuppance!
The first alternate poster comes from artist Jason A. Messina who shared his creation on Twitter. He explains:
“I made this Toy Story clapback poster in response to the posters of the new Child’s Play movie – Chucky killing Woody, Buzz, etc. While those posters are really great, it seemed fitting that the “storyline” would continue w/ the Mutant Toys getting some much-deserved revenge.”
The second alternate poster floating around the internet looks like it could have been made by the folks at Pixar themselves! We’re still looking for the artist, so if you know who created Woody’s revenge, let us know in the comments section so we can give them proper credit!
Check out the synopsis and trailer for Orion’s Child’s Play below.
