John Krasinski Might Not Direct A QUIET PLACE 2

Not only did A Quiet Place emerge as one of 2018’s most lauded horror releases, director/star/co-writer John Krasinski, best known for playing hapless Jim Halpert on The Office, became an unlikely rising star in the genre. Greenlighting a sequel was a no-brainer for Paramount, and Krasinski is had at work penning the screenplay.

And though we all figured he wouldn’t be appearing in the film as an actor (except, perhaps, in flashbacks) it turns out he might be passing the torch to a new director as well. Here’s what he recently told Empire:

“So here I am now writing [the screenplay] and we’ll see if I end up directing it. But it’s an entertaining idea because I think for me, the cool part about this is, that it doesn’t feel like a sequel.”

Krasinski also discussed the who (or rather what) he feels is the true star of the franchise: The world itself.

“The beauty of it is that it’s the expansion of a world. Most sequels are about the return of a villain or a hero, and you have to build a totally new story around your favorite hero or favorite villain. [With this sequel], we actually have the world to deal with. The world is actually the star of the movie. So, this set of circumstances, how the rest of the world is dealing with this apocalyptic tragedy, is the fun of it then. That’s what drew me back.”

If you spent 2018 under a rock and missed A Quiet Place, you can peep the synopsis and trailer below.

Synopsis:
In a post-apocalyptic world, a family is forced to live in silence while hiding from monsters with ultra-sensitive hearing.

A Quiet Place 2 is already slated to invade US theaters beginning in May of 2020.
