First Cut of GLASS was Over 3 Hours Long!

When M. Night Shyamalan delivers Glass on January 18th, he’ll have made a trilogy that began with Unbreakable in 2000 and was followed by Split in 2016. From the sounds of it, he’s got enough ideas for at least another movie in his expanding “Shyamalaniverse” The filmmaker known for his third act, final sequence twists has hit the road to promote Glass, revealing the first cut he assembled was over 3 hours long!

Here’s what he told Digital Spy during an extensive interview:
“The script was really long, it was almost 150 pages and the first cut of the movie was 3 hours and 20 minutes, it was really long. Then it started tightening until we got to the 2.08 that you can see.”
In an era when even a slow-burn horror movie can unfold in a tight 85 minutes, 3 hours and 20 minutes is literally the length of two feature films! Whether Shyamalan releases a director’s cut or if the excised scenes will be available as bonus features on the eventual Blu-ray/DVD remains to be seen.
Synopsis:
M. Night Shyamalan brings together the narratives of two of his standout originals—2000’s Unbreakable, from Touchstone, and 2016’s Split, from Universal—in one explosive, all-new comic-book thriller: Glass. From Unbreakable, Bruce Willis returns as David Dunn as does Samuel L. Jackson as Elijah Price, known also by his pseudonym Mr. Glass. Joining from Split are James McAvoy, reprising his role as Kevin Wendell Crumb and the multiple identities who reside within, and Anya Taylor-Joy as Casey Cooke, the only captive to survive an encounter with The Beast. Following the conclusion of Split, Glass finds Dunn pursuing Crumb’s superhuman figure of The Beast in a series of escalating encounters, while the shadowy presence of Price emerges as an orchestrator who holds secrets critical to both men.
