Screen Rant give THE MEG the “Honest Trailer” Treatment

The folks at Screen Rant have amassed legions of followers for their snarky yet spot-on assessments of today’s biggest genre offerings in the form of “Honest Trailers”. How many times have moviegoers felt misled by a promo that promises boatloads of excitement for a film that turns out to be extremely lackluster? The irony of “Honest Trailers” is that they arrive too late to give us a truly objective look at the films we spend our hard-earned dollars on.

Their latest subject (victim?) is The Meg. While shark-themed horror movies have become a staple of the summer blockbuster season, The Meg fell short of previous years’ megahits The Shallows and 47 Meters Down (released in 2016 and 2017 respectively). Though clearly produced with a ton of money, special FX and star power couldn’t catapult The Meg beyond mediocre.

Look, I’m not saying The Meg wasn’t good, mindless mayhem (and neither are the folks at Screen Rant) but let’s be “Honest”: The film had more bark than bite! Give Screen Rant’s “Honest Trailer” a spin below, followed by the actual synopsis and trailer for The Meg. Enjoy!

Synopsis:
Previously thought to be extinct, a massive creature attacks a deep-sea submersible, leaving it disabled and trapping the crew at the bottom of the Pacific. With time running out, a visionary oceanographer recruits rescue diver Jonas Taylor to save the crew and the sea itself from an unimaginable threat — a 75-foot-long prehistoric shark known as the Megalodon.

The Meg is directed by Jon Turteltaub from a screenplay based on the novel by Steve Alten; the film stars Jason Statham, Bingbing Li, and Rainn Wilson.
