Last Night was Also Lauren Cohan’s Last Episode of THE WALKING DEAD

Though her character hardly got the heart-wrenching send-off her co-star Andrew Lincoln received, Sunday’s episode of The Walking Dead was actually the last for Lauren Cohan, the actress who’s played Maggie Greene/Rhee since Season 2, as well. It’s not surprising that her character has been written out, considering her contract negotiations famously went south earlier this year (not to mention the fact that the actress had accepted new future jobs—ones certain to conflict with The Walking Dead’s rigorous shooting schedule).

What is surprising, though, is that Maggie will be disappearing into the ether with little fanfare. Lincoln was showered with love and praises leading up to his character’s departure; Maggie got nothing (except a disappointing resolution to her quest for vengeance against Negan). Like Lincoln, though, fans are hopeful that Maggie could return in future seasons of The Walking Dead, or perhaps one of the made-for-TV movies AMC has in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter:

“That’s the last of her for this season,” showrunner Angela Kang confirms, speaking with The Hollywood Reporter about Cohan’s work in season nine. AMC programming president David Madden verifies the news, adding: “I would hope it’s not the last you’ll see of her for the show, but she is not in any immediately forthcoming episodes.”

As for what fans of The Walking Dead can expect moving forward, peep the trailer for the next 3 episodes below. The Walking Dead airs on AMC Sunday nights at 9 PM.
