John Krasinski & Emily Blunt Dish Details on Plot for A QUIET PLACE 2

Greenlighting a sequel to this year’s megahit A Quiet Place was a no-brainer for Paramount, and fans can look forward to seeing (but not hearing) A Quiet Place 2 on May 15th, 2020. Though details regarding the sequel are scant, we recently reported on comments director/writer John Krasinski made to The Hollywood Reporter; to recap:

…I had this small idea for a sequel, but I didn’t think it would go anywhere,” Krasinski told THR. “So, I said to the studio, ‘Just go do the movie with somebody else.’ They heard some pitches, and I told Drew [Form, producer] about this little idea, and he told me to think about it a little longer. And then I thought, ‘This might really work.’

Those who saw A Quiet Place (like most Dread Central readers) will recall that Krasinski’s unnamed character (Lee Abbott in the credits) didn’t fare so well during the film’s conclusion, so we’re not expecting to see him in front of the camera in the sequel (save, perhaps, in flashbacks). This led many to wonder of A Quiet Place 2 will follow any of the surviving members of the Abbott clan at all.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, however, Krasinski and his on-and-off-screen wife Emily Blunt teased a few telling details. The fact that they were joined by Millicent Simmonds (who played daughter Regan Abbott in A Quiet Place) bodes well for those hoping for the family’s return, as do comments Blunt made regarding the audience’s connection to them:

“In some ways, the idea of seeing who these people were before this all happened would be interesting, but I’m not quite sure because I think actually it’s now what’s the next chapter and what happens next. I think people feel very invested in this family… I think it’s such an open book right now, and certainly for John who is lasering into something as we speak.”

As for Krasinski, he’s still only talking about A Quiet Place 2 in generalities that do little besides titillate:

“This is a world you can play in, this isn’t just a character to remake…. it’s actually a world, which is a whole different, very unique experience. It’s not like Alien or Jaws where the main villain is the thing you’re repeating; it’s an actual entire set of rules and the circumstance that the world has undergone that you can play in very different facets.”

As for Simmonds, she offered a few personal ideas regarding where the story could go next including a prequel, focusing on a new family, or picking up after a significant time jump. There’s not much we can do besides wait and see at this point, but you’d better believe we’ll be following the production for A Quiet Place 2 every step of the way.
