Even though Lionsgate’s big screen adaptation of the Suzanne Collins novel The Hunger Games hasn’t even made it to theathers yet, that’s not stopping the studio from gearing up for its sequel. Yes. Already. No really. Not kidding. Swear.
Lionsgate announced today that it will release Catching Fire, the film adaptation of the second book in Collins’ runaway bestselling Hunger Games trilogy, on November 22, 2013. The announcement was made by Joe Drake, co-COO of Lionsgate and President of its Motion Picture Group. No further details about Catching Fire have been confirmed at this stage.
As the sequel to the 2008 bestseller The Hunger Games, it continues the story of Katniss Everdeen and the fictional, futuristic nation of Panem. Due to the events of the previous novel, a rebellion against the ruling Capitol has begun, and Katniss and fellow tribute Peeta are forced to return to the arena in a special edition of The Hunger Games.
The Hunger Games is currently in production and will be released on March 23, 2012.
