And again IFC Midnight proves why they’re among every genre fan’s best friends: The company has picked up U.S. distribution rights to The Shrine, the latest thriller from writer/director Jon Knautz.

Knautz, who is best known for Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer, reteamed with Brooks himself, Trevor Matthews, along with actors Meghan Heffern, Aaron Ashmore, and Cindy Sampson for The Shrine (review here).

Synopsis:
After a young American backpacker goes missing in Europe, a group of journalists link his disappearance to a remote village in Poland called Alvaina. Upon further investigation, the journalists discover that Alvaina has a history of bizarre cult activity revolving around human sacrifice. Hellbent on discovering the truth, they travel to the small village but quickly find themselves pursued by a mysterious group set on killing them. Forced into the gruesome reality of true survival horror, the journalists soon discover that Alvaina hides a much darker secret than they could ever imagine.

Be sure to check out the official The Shrine website for more information, and watch this space for release dates from IFC soon.
