**UPDATE** We’ve reached out to Anchor Bay. The August 2nd DVD release of In the Deep has officially been pulled in support of Entertainment Studios’ theatrical release of the film as 47 Meters Down (unless of course the title changes again).

In the Deep has had a weird journey on its way to release. Formerly 47 Meters Down, the flick is scheduled to come out next week on August 2nd via the Weinsteins and Anchor Bay. As I sit here, I have a review copy of final product sitting on my desk. Today, however, things have changed.

THR is reporting that Byron Allen’s Entertainment Studios has acquired North American rights to the Mandy Moore shark thriller 47 Meters Down from the Weinsteins and will distribute it on 2,500-plus screens using the original title through its recently purchased theatrical distribution company Freestyle Releasing in 2017.

So, will the movie come out next week on DVD? Honestly, I’ve never seen anything like this ever happen before so I just don’t know. HOWEVER, it’s a good bet that it won’t. At the time of this writing it’s STILL listed on Amazon – who, curiously enough, have a Blu-ray listing for it even though it was only announced to be coming out on DVD. Stay tuned. I think. Wow.

Directed by Johannes Roberts (The Other Side of the Door), the underwater thriller stars Mandy Moore (“This Is Us,” A Walk to Remember), Claire Holt (“The Vampire Diaries,” “The Originals”), Yani Gellman (“Pretty Little Liars,” “The Young and The Restless”), and Matthew Modine (Full Metal Jacket, The Dark Knight Rises).

Synopsis:
In the Deep dives into a world of two sisters (Moore and Holt) who become trapped at the bottom of the ocean when a diving expedition to observe sharks goes horribly wrong. When the cable attaching their observation cage to the boat breaks and the cage sinks to the bottom of the ocean, the sisters must figure out a way to get back to safety battling injuries, lack of oxygen, and, worst of all, bloodthirsty Great White sharks.
