Once terrifying horror movie monsters, thanks in HUGE part to Jaws, sharks have sadly become computer-generated jokes in recent years – thanks in no small part to crap like Sharknado. But with The Shallows, Jaume Collet-Serra hopes to remind us all that it’s NEVER safe to head back into the water.

It’s really a story of us all trying to survive on this planet. It sounds lofty, but when you boil it down, that’s what it is,” star Blake Lively told the site. “What I really liked about this is that it wasn’t just Bikini vs. Monster. But you still get a little bikini and you still get a little monster!

The film swims into theaters June 24.

Lively stars along with Óscar Jaenada and Sedona Legge. The Shallows (formerly known as In the Deep) was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and written by Anthony Jaswinski.

Synopsis:
Nancy (Lively) is surfing alone on a secluded beach when she is attacked by a Great White and stranded just a short distance from shore. Though she is only 200 yards from her survival, getting there proves the ultimate contest of wills. It’s Jaws for a new generation.
