Ferran Xalabarder and Valentin Ramon’s Born in Hell Blends Horror with Film Noir

I’m not a very knowledge individual when it comes to the world of comic books, but I certainly know what I like. And judging from the description and artwork for Ferran Xalabarder and Valentin Ramon’s horror-tinged, film noir-inspired Born in Hell, it’s definitely something I could curl up with on a cold winter evening. Penned in black and white (minus the splashes of red, of course), the story follows a hard-boiled private detective tasked with tracking down a very precious item.

The following synopsis helps set the proverbial stage:

Two-fisted private detective Joe Colter is on a mission to find a missing family heirloom. His only allies are his twin automatics, Becky and Betsy, and has lightning-fast reflexes. When he gets to the bottom of this noir caper, there will be Hell to pay and the devils will get their due.

During an interview with Comic Crusaders, Xalabarder said he and Ramon were greatly influenced by a certain controversial Mickey Rourke flick that also contained elements of horror and noir.

A movie that Valentin and I had in mind from the very beginning was ANGEL HEART, Allan Parker’s masterpiece. We both liked it very much and we wanted to give the same feeling to our story… or we tried to, at least,” Ferran explained during his chat with the site.
