John Dugan Playing Texas Chain Saw Massacre’s Grandpa for Special Convention Appearance

Horror conventions continue to evolve in an effort to provide fans with truly special memories, and the “in costume photo-op” has become increasingly popular in recent years. Following in the footsteps of Robert Englund and Kane Hodder, John Dugan is set to reprise his most famous role.
Dugan played the ancient Grandpa Sawyer in the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre, and after nearly 40 years, he put the makeup back on for a quick appearance in Texas Chainsaw 3D. Early next year, at Florida’s Pensacon, Dugan will play the character for the first time off of a movie set.

Pensacon will be the site of a horror milestone in 2016, as original Texas Chain Saw Massacre star John Dugan will be donning his famous Grandpa makeup for the first time ever off a movie set and offer exclusive photo opportunities for fans.
“Face Off” fan favorite R.J. Haddy of the hit Syfy show will be applying Dugan’s complex makeup for the event as well as offering several special workshops over the weekend.
“I never really wanted to ‘suit up’ for a personal appearance. Sitting for this sort of makeup is not really a pleasant experience, but after I met and became friends with RJ at the first Pensacon, this idea started brewing,” Dugan said. “We decided, ‘What better place to do it than back where it all started?’“
Pensacon runs February 19-21, 2016. Dates and prices for the photo ops will be revealed in January. Pensacon will also film the entire transformation to release via its social media channels later in 2016.

Featuring three days of celebrities, panel discussions, concerts, gaming events, costume contests, and more. Weekend passes are $65 until December 31, 2015, at 11:59 p.m. and increase to $75 on January 1, 2016. Day passes will also go on sale that day.
