Prey for DVD

Prey on DVD!I reported on Prey back in October when it was just one of many movies being offered up at the then upcoming American Film Market. Now Fangoria has the first look at the film’s DVD art and confirmed a January 30th release via The Weinstein Company’s Genius Entertainment.

As you can tell from the cover art and “inspired by a true story” tagline, Prey recounts the terrifying aftermath of a beautiful young actress who dared to spurn Russell Crowe’s romantic intentions many years ago.

Hold on a sec.

Checking my notes…

My bad!

Prey is actually about an American family on an African safari that end up stranded out in the game preserve with a pair of persistent and very hungry lions. The father, who stayed behind for business reasons, sets out to rescue his trophy wife and children.

Prey stars Bridget Moynahan (and her tight T-shirt) of the recently cancelled ABC drama “Six Degrees” who gets to spend much of the film fending off primal beasts, which she probably has experience with from her encounters with producers looking to make use of the Hollywood casting couch. Ex-Robocop/Buckaroo Banzai Peter Weller could probably use some casting couch action seeing as how he’s no longer considered a big enough name to get his mug on the DVD cover art.

Prey was written and directed by Darrell James Roodt whose credits range from the acclaimed Cry, the Beloved Country to the instantly forgettable Ice Cube flick Dangerous Ground to the unforgettable landmark of modern bad moviemaking we know as Dracula 3000. Let it be an inspiration to all filmmakers out there that have ever made a truly terrible film; if the maker of Dracula 3000 can be allowed to make another movie then so can you. According to Fangoria’s article, Cry Wolf creators Jeff Wadlow and Beau Bauman also had a hand in scripting this one, so hopefully they can keep this one from sinking to the level of Casper Van Dien battling Dracula in space.

You can check out the film’s official website and a trailer for Prey by clicking here. This one looks like it might have some potential.
