New Preacher Images Call for Separation of Church and Helicopter

A couple of behind-the-scenes images from AMC’s upcoming adaption of Garth Ennis’ “Preacher” have landed on the interwebs, and we have ’em both for you right here courtesy of The Santa Fe New Mexican and Seth Rogen on Twitter.

Interestingly enough, for the past couple of decades, the Lamy Church you see pictured below has remained boarded up. Its adobe walls have crumbled. The bell tower, in decay, has remained silent, and pigeons have defecated all over the wooden pews. Lamy residents spent decades trying to raise the money to restore the church. They would sometimes attempt to make repairs, such as when they replaced the roof about eight years ago. Despite these efforts, however, travelers wouldn’t find any cars in the dusty parking lot. If they approached the crumbling church, they were greeted by locked blue doors and boarded-up windows. Now that the church is a location for “Preacher,” the show about demons, madmen, monsters, loss of faith, and a God who’s on vacation has given the site one hell of a boost.

Preacher Behind the Scenes

The project, from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, Sony TV, and AMC Studios, centers on Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who merges with a creature that has escaped from heaven and develops the ability to make anyone do anything he says. Along with his ex-girlfriend, Tulip (Ruth Negga), and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun), the three embark on a journey to literally find God.

Earl Brown as the villainous Hugo Root, the mean-hearted father of Arseface and a local sheriff; Lucy Griffiths as Emily; Elizabeth Perkins as Vyla Quinncannon, a genteel but formidable businesswoman who owns the local slaughterhouse in Annville; and Ian Colletti as Eugene Root, aka Arseface.
