When I’m not drowning my sorrows in horror, I tend to watch a lot of action/adventure movies from the 80s. And I mean a lot of 80s action/adventure movies. Needless to say, anything that claims to poke fun at this genre from that particular era almost always snags my undivided attention.
Such is the case of Dave Made a Maze, an upcoming adventure/horror/comedy from co-writer/director Bill Waterson, co-writer Steven Sear, and producers John Charles Meyer and John Chuldenko. Not only does the film sport a pretty amusing premise, it also features a very impressive cast that includes a “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” alum and the bassist from OK Go.
Here’s what the flick is all about.
Dave (Nick Thune), an artist who has yet to complete anything significant in his career, builds a fort in his living room out of pure frustration, only to wind up trapped by the fantastical pitfalls, booby traps, and critters of his own creation. Ignoring his warnings, Dave’s girlfriend, Annie (Meera Rohit Kumbhani), leads a band of oddball explorers on a rescue mission.
In addition to Thune and Kumbhani, Dave Made a Maze stars James Urbaniak, Stephanie Allynne, Adam Busch, Kirsten Vangsness, Scott Krinsky, Rick Overton, Frank Caeti, Tim Nordwind, John Hennigan, and Scott Narver. Filming is currently under way in Los Angeles.
