‘The A-Frame’ Director and Stars On Crafting A New Kind of Mad Scientist [Watch]

The A-Frame

The phrase “mad scientist” often conjures up images of a Victor Frankenstein-esque figure, clad in a white lab coat and surrounded by rusty machinery. Electricity often feels the air (literally) and monsters are born from their ancient machines. But director Calvin Reeder has a different kind of mad scientist in mind for his new film The A-Frame, which had its world premiere at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival.

In The A-Frame:

A quantum physicist’s groundbreaking machine inadvertently opens a portal to a subatomic universe while attempting to prove its efficacy. During his experiments on rats, he stumbles upon a radical cancer treatment that could revolutionize modern medicine. Driven by ambition and the desire to legitimize his work, the physicist begins human trials, raising the stakes and blurring the lines between science and ethics.

We spoke with Reeder and stars Johnny Whitworth and Dana Namerode about playing with humor, buckets of blood, and crafting this strange and funny world.
