Horror History: Happy Birthday to the Delightfully Demented John Waters!

On this day in horror history, cult figure and film director John Waters was born. Funko recently announced that they have a John Waters POP! vinyl figure coming our way. You can read more about that – and see a pic – in the link below.

Check out more info on John Waters below.

His first short film was Hag in a Black Leather Jacket in 1964. He followed that up with other notorious shorts like Roman Candles and Eat Your Makeup. He then kicked it up to feature films beginning with Mondo Trasho in 1969 (nice).

Since then he’s helmed trash classics such as Multiple Maniacs, Pink Flamingos, Female Trouble, and Desperate Living. He then went (a little bit) more mainstream with films such as Polyester, Hairspray, and Cry-Baby with Johnny Depp.

Then came my favorite-ish John Waters movie Serial Mom. After that Waters continued with killer comedies. Like Pecker, Cecil B. Demented, and A Dirty Shame.

Hairspray was remade with John Travolta back in 2007.

As an actor, he’s appeared in his own films. Not to mention other directors’ movies. Like Something Wild, Sweet and Lowdown, Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat, and *checks notes* Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip. And Seed of Chucky.

Not to mention TV shows such as 21 Jump Street, Homicide: Life on the Street, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, The Simpsons, Frasier, My Name Is Earl, RuPaul’s Drag Race, The Blacklist, and as William Castle in Feud: Bette and Joan.

He also appeared as himself in the must-see MPAA documentary This Film Is Not Yet Rated and in the award-winning must-see MTV documentary Jackass Number Two.
