The title is a pun on the classic video game Space Invaders.

Spaced Invaders tells the tale of goofy little green Martians who land in Illinois on Halloween, believing they’re supposed to invade Earth. Douglas Barr Royal Dano (Something Wicked This Way Come, Killer Klowns From Outer Space) stars along with Ariana Richards (Tremors, Jurassic Park).

Okay maybe picking this flick to cover today might be a bit selfish. After all, this is one of the very first movies I ever remember renting. And I mean the first. Ever. It was the first video store in our town – before Blockbuster moved in. It was a new release so that means I was in like Kindergarten. I remember the standee. All of it. Does the movie still hold up? Well, our very own Anthony Arrigo said in his Blu-ray review:

Does it sound lame to say this small town sci-fi comedy has big-time fun? Probably, but it’s true, and I got a good dose of nostalgic ‘90s vibes from this Halloween-set sci-fi comedy. Those looking for a solid story won’t be wowed but it in enough charm and eye candy (I never tire of watching animatronics in action) to be entertaining and enjoyable…

Patrick Read Johnson (Angus, Baby’s Day Out) directed Spaced Invaders from a script he also penned with Scott Lawrence Alexander. Luigi Cingolani produced.
