A 430-Million-Year-Old Sea Creature Covered with Tentacles: Meet the Actual Cthulhu!

Oxford scientist recently discovered some remarkably well-preserved remains of a creature that crawled the oceans more than 430 million years ago. They’ve been able to recreate what the relative of the modern sea cucumber might have actually looked like–and it’s pretty terrifying! Covered with tentacles, scientists have appropriately named this ancient monster Cthulhu! Sollasina Cthulhu, to be exact.

Give this hideous fiend a look-see below.

Of course, Sollasina Cthulhu loses some of its ability to terrify when you learn the creature averaged about 3 centimeters long! Still, it’s a fun tribute to H.P. Lovecraft.
