Voodoo Zombies in Paradise Lost
Every now and then a story comes along about a project that doesn’t have any specifically exciting names attached but still manages to sound like a very promising idea nonetheless. In this case it’s Paradise Lost, the first film announced as a co-production of LA’s Maverick Red and Swedish Grindhouse Pictures.
Twitch Film got the first word on Lost thanks to a press release but also filled us in as to why we should care. Christian Hallman (pictured) is one of the men behind Grindhouse, but he’s also been one of the leading festival programmers for fantastic film fests in Europe for many years now, which means, to paraphrase Twitch, he knows his shit.
Paradise Lost (no relation to the book of the same name or the film adaptation being helmed by Exorcism of Emily Rose director Scott Derrickson) will tell a modern-day horror story about a man out on the hunt for his sister, only to find out that she’s been killed and resurrected as a voodoo zombie. Ah, hasn’t been a good old school voodoo zombie movie in years so I’m intrigued, to say the least.
Location scouting is being done in South Carolina, of all places, so we’ll be hearing more soon. Aside from a festival programmer, Hallman served as line producer on the Swedish vampire film Frostbitten (review) as well, though Paradise Lost is the first film under the Grindhouse banner.
Maverick Red are the folks behind the upcoming Stepfather remake as well as Slaughter (which we last told you about here) and The Standford Prision Experiment.
