Twilight Staked Near Dark, New Moon Director Confirmed

We, as horror fans, actually now have a damn good reason to give thanks to Twilight. According to Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller, the planned remake of Near Dark has been canceled because of it.
“Near Dark is probably not going to happen,” Fuller told Empire in a recent interview. “I think that Twilight was the same type of thing we were going for although Near Dark was a much darker, sexier, rated R version of that. But I’m concerned that, conceptually, that Near Dark and Twilight are too similar in terms of a vampire movie. For now, that movie is on hold.”
Whoa, what the fuck? In no level of reality should Near Dark and Twilight have anything in common other than dealing with vampires. So let us raise a glass to Catherine Hardwicke and everyone else who made Twilight a success for allowing us to dodge this remake bullet.
In other Twilight-related news, Chris Weitz has officially signed on to direct the film’s sequel, New Moon, which will likely start shooting any minute now.
