Sundown DVD Date, Waxwork Remake Status
Anthony Hickox first mentioned a possible remake of his seminal 80’s classic monster mash-up Waxwork when I interviewed him a few months back (read about it, and a possible Waxwork musical, right here). Today he told Fangoria that the remake might be in the works.
”The guy who owns the rights to it is dying to remake it, but he doesn’t get along with one of the other producers from the original,” Hickox told the mag. “However, I’m sure they will work something out. If they do that, it still needs to be campy—and the mummy would have to move a lot faster than it did in mine! If they do get it going, my only request is to do a cameo appearance.”
In other Hickox news, his “lost” vampire film Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat, which we broke the DVD news on here, finally has an official release date: September 23rd. Though the specs have yet to be finalized, we do know that the DVD will feature a first-time-ever widescreen transfer of the film, a commentary by Hickox and cinematographer Levie Issacks, and interviews with stars Bruce Campbell and David Carradine.
We’ve still got a few months to wait, so expect final specs for the Lionsgate release of Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat very soon!

UPDATE: The trailer for Mirrors is now online and embedded below! Alexandre Aja's remake of of Mirrors is slowly pulling me in. Sure, it's a remake of a Korean ghost story and those are becoming old hat, but something about casting Kiefer Sutherland in it gives the film and edge that the others lack. Too bad we haven't seen a trailer yet, and the release is just a couple months away. Oh Aja! Why do you tease us!
