Spanish King of the Hill Acquired

King of the Hill nabbed for U.S. releaseI really hope the title for this changes before The Weinstein Co. releases it in theaters; King of the Hill just has too many cartoon-related connotations for me.

Daily Variety announced today that the Wesinstein’s have nabbed the U.S. rights to the Spanish thriller El rey de la Montana, also known as King of the Hill. The film is about a man who follows a pick pocketer through the Spanish countryside in the hopes of reclaiming what she stole from him, but becomes hopelessly lost and is purposefully stranded by some local bad guys.

Apparently the movie has a gut-punch second half switcheroo that will keep people talking long after the film is over. Damn, I gotta say I’m more than a little curious. The film is the latest from Spanish helmer Gozalo Lopez-Gallego; though first couple cinematic accomplishments were well received in Spain, King is being called his “breakthrough”.

No word on release plans for King of the Hill yet but we’ll let you know when we learn more!
