Skipp & Spector's AnimalsHoly. Shit. A Skipp & Spector book is making it to celluloid!

Skipp & Spector fans, take note; the first adaptation of one of the splatterpunk duo’s books, the werewolf tale Animals, begins production in Salt Lake City next week! How the hell did this movie get this close to filming and we not hear about it?

If you somehow missed the pair’s string of badass horror novels from the late 80’s/early 90’s, I recommend you get out there and find them. Animals is a lesser-known title, actually, as it was their last book together before they split. Criag Spector himself adapted the script for the film, which will mark the directorial debut of Doug Aarniokoski, whose previous credits include second unit work on Robert Rodriguez films. Not a bad place to start!

Mark Blucas, Nicki Aycox, Eva Amurri, Andy Comeau and Naveen Andrews have all been signed to star in the film according to Variety. The story is about a man in a dying factory town whose life is given a jolt when he meets a beautiful young woman with a very messed-up secret and the lover who pursues her.

Wow, this is just fucking awesome to me. I love Skipp & Spector’s stuff and have been waiting for years for one of their books to finally make it to the big screen. That fact that it’s not the vampire novel The Light at the End is surprising, but I’ll take werewolf movies over vampire any day!

Keep it here for more on Animals, as we’re going to keep on top of this one like white on rice!
