Rocco Not a Killer?

The Killer Inside MeHere’s some proof that, while they’re one of the most respected names in legitimate movie news online, even Variety gets it wrong from time to time.

Yesterday we ran a story (read it here) about Marc Rocco being attached as director on The Killer Inside Me, a project that’s been developing in Tinseltown for years under various producers. A lot of information was given from the trade, indicating that shooting could begin as early as this fall.

Well, IGN found out otherwise. Producer Chris Hanley, whose name was also mentioned in the story, dropped them a line to clear the air: “This Variety article is the first I have heard the name Marc Rocco in association with my motion picture project Killer Inside Me,” Hanley told the site. “I was not consulted at all by Variety, or by any of the people purporting to be financing or directing the movie in that article.”

Whoops! Hanley is requesting a retraction of the story from Variety and also told IGN that lately John Curran (The Painted Veil) has been in discussions to helm The Killer Inside Me. We’ll be sure to update you when we hear more!
