New Wave of Asian Horror

Black House is part of the new wave of Asian horrors!Asian horror is becoming hot again, and thankfully they seem to be leaving all the long-haired female ghosts that have made it such a tired place to wallow in behind. For now.

According to an article in Daily Variety, Korea is seeing an upswing in interesting, mature horror movies that tackle themes other than ghosts taking their revenge. The Black House (pictured), for example, which has been #1 at the Korean box office for a while and winning accolades left and right. The story is about an insurance salesman who holds off on allowing a payment to go out to a woman who may have murdered her seven-year-old child for the money, though all evidence (bizarrely) points to suicide.

Medical thrillers like Wide Awake, period horror like Shadows in the Palace and Epitaph and yes, even big budget movies like D-Wars are helping reinvent the way people think of Asian horror these days, a reinvention that we’ve been hoping would happen for years now.

Keep it here as we learn more about all these titles and hopefully a lot more, along with info on their inevitable release Stateside!
